Washington Stage Guild announces the postponement of Sam and Dede, or My Dinner with André the Giant by Gino DiIorio.

Play being planned for the 2020-2021 season.

18 March 2020: The Washington Stage Guild announces with regret that we are postponing the Washington premiere of Sam and Dede, or My Dinner with André the Giant by Gino DiIorio until the 2020-21 season.

Under the circumstances of the current health crisis, it was a necessary decision that was nonetheless difficult so near its scheduled opening. It is our hope to present this clever play about two titans of the 20th Century, embodied by two of DC’s most intriguing actors – Alan Wade as Sam (Beckett) and Scott McCormick as André (the Giant), under the direction of Stage Guild Associate Artistic Director Steven Carpenter.

“The theatre in Washington has been horribly affected by the coronavirus pandemic and the needed precautions to keep people safe,” says Artistic Director Bill Largess. “As other theatres began to postpone or cancel, we felt we had to join them to help prevent the disease’s spread.”

“The writing was, of course, on the wall and the Stage Guild has had to cancel the spring opening of our production of SAM & DEDE, OR MY DINNER WITH ANDRE THE GIANT.” says Carpenter. “To say I am saddened is an understatement — for now, you’ll have to take my word about the wonderful work that Alan and Scott were doing. We are hopeful that we will be able to reprogram the show for the future. Stay safe, my friends.”

The Stage Guild’s 2020-2021 season will be announced when we are more confidant of what the situation will be like next fall.
